After being evacuated from Libya, 180 Nigerian refugees were greeted by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Supporting vulnerable returnees and addressing irregular migration were two goals of the evacuation, according to a statement from the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The United Nations agency reported that returning citizens had received health screenings, counselling, and other urgent aid, and that those who were qualified will receive reintegration assistance to help them start again.
Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos’s Cargo Wing welcomed the returns.
More than fifty of the returns originated from detention centers in Libya, according to Mr. Ali Ibrahim, Head of the Lagos Sub-Office of NEMA, who addressed newsmen on Tuesday.
The number of people in the group is as follows: 108 adults, 45 adults, 17 children, 12 babies, and 2 unaccompanied juveniles, he said.
Therefore, this is something that happens every week. People arrive at several points of access in Nigeria, including Abuja, on a regular basis via commercial flights as well as charter flights, according to Ibrahim.
Reintegration into society through support programs would follow the profiling of returns by the Nigerian Immigration Service, Mr. Ibrahim stated.
He mentioned that over 65,000 Nigerians had been able to return from different places since the program began in 2017 with the help of the IOM and the Federal Government.
